Applied Planning is a practice of Chartered Town Planning Consultants and is regulated by the Royal Town Planning Institute.

We are based in Birmingham and operate throughout much of England and Wales. The practice offers a blend of enthusiasm and experience with the emphasis on the application of sound planning principles.

Town Planning is never a static science and we are adapt in formulating planning strategies and providing a robust and defensible approach to achieving planning and development solutions.
Based on our experience in delivering results to both private and public sector clients we aim to provide a professional and cost effective service which is responsive to client’s needs.
ABOUT PAUL
Paul Instone BSc (Hons) DipTP MRTPI
Paul Instone has worked for a number of major consultancies and has extensive experience in project managing, preparing and submitting major planning applications.
He is experienced in preparing robust, technical evidence based documents and has prepared retail, housing and employment studies on behalf of local authorities.
​
He has also acted on behalf of a number of private sector clients on a range of development projects including the preparation of retail impact assessments for Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Limited in connection with their store expansion programme in the West Midlands. He has appeared as an Expert Witness at public inquiries.

Applied Planning were appointed by Hortons' Estate Limited to undertake all retail planning work for this out-of-centre retail park, from gaining the planning permission as well as varying the planning permission to accommodate the commercial requirements of Pure Gym and B&M Homestore.

STEVENAGE BOROUGH COUNCIL
Applied Planning have acted for Stevenage Borough Council for in excess of 5 years preparing the Council’s retail evidence base study, providing support at the Examination in Public on retail matters and providing technical retail planning advice to assist in the determination of retail planning applications.

Applied Planning were appointed by Hortons' Estate Limited to undertake all retail planning work for this out-of-centre retail park, from gaining the planning permission as well as subsequent applications to re-configure the estate and secure additional tenants.
